TransomShield Application Instructions

*Note:  TransomShield will adhere to crafts made of fiberglass, urethane, treated wood, and all metals. TransomShield may also be applied over current graphics and striping without affecting their appearance.  The following instructions must be followed regardless of what the craft is made of.

Materials needed for installation:
Isopropyl Alcohol.
Clean Spray Bottle with a solution of 25% Isopropyl Alcohol and 75% Water.  Safety Pin or Needle.

Placement of your TransomShield

For all Applications: Determine where your TransomShield is to be placed. Leaving the release liner on, take your TransomShield and check for fit.   If necessary, your TransomShield can be trimmed with a sharp pair of scissors.  The temperature for application is between 55 and 90 degrees F.  Your hull and the TransomShield must be within this temperature range or you will have adhesive failure.

Surface Preparation

Using isopropyl alcohol, you now need to clean the area where your TransomShield is to be applied.  Using a paper towel, thoroughly clean a small area.  While this area is still wet, use a clean paper towel and wipe it off.  Each time you apply more alcohol use a clean paper towel and another clean paper towel to wipe off the area while it is still wet.  Do this for the entire area where your TransomShield is to be installed.  This step will remove any mold release agents, wax build up and clean the area of all foreign substances.    For removing heavy silicone wax build up, using a lacquer thinner before this step is recommended, just be sure to thoroughly clean the area with isopropyl alcohol after you use the lacquer thinner.

Remember, your TransomShield is virtually invisible!

Marks, scuffs, dirt, anything on the surface where TransomShield will be placed or that gets on TransomShield’s adhesive will show through.

Installation Instructions

1.   ** USING CLEAN WET HANDS** Place your TransomShield on a flat surface and carefully remove the release liner by pulling back at an angle of 180 degrees. This will minimize any stretching. Try not to touch the adhesive with your fingers; you will leave fingerprints in the adhesive.

2.   Using your spray bottle with the isopropyl and water solution in it, liberally spray the adhesive side of your TransomShield and the surface where your TransomShield is to be applied.  Keeping your TransomShield and the surface wet will allow you to position it once it is on your hull.  Now place your TransomShield onto the prepared surface, carefully moving it into position.

3.   Once in position, use your spray bottle with the isopropyl and water solution and liberally spray the outer surface (non adhesive side) of your TransomShield.

4.   Using the squeegee provided, start at the center of your TransomShield and gently squeegee the alcohol solution and air from under your TransomShield.

5.   If there are air bubbles remaining after you squeegee, use a needle or safety pin and pierce the air bubble gently forcing the air out through the hole with your finger or squeegee.

6.   Once applied you need to wait 24 hours before using your boat.
